There was talk around the base that Dan married Laurie too soon after his first wife died. I guess you could say he made a mistake.
Review
In a way, I'm surprised that there aren't more Invaders episodes that follow this pattern, that of sending a beguiling female to exert influence over a male in a position of power. It was well known, even before Ian Fleming published "From Russia With Love", that the Soviet Union trained female operatives to use romantic involvement to compromise US security. Reflecting public concerns of the time, The Invaders explores this issue in an episode which has a unique feel and atmosphere.
Much of the action is very relaxed, including the routine nature of the tours for journalists, the domestic tranquility of Keller's house, and Laurie's homely appeal. The music contributes to this effect. This all contributes to the central premise of the episode, which is that great lengths are being gone to in order to persuade people that everything is alright when it isn't. At the point when the backup tapes are switched in, a good deal more changes than the source code of a computer program. Of course by this stage, it's much too late for the hapless Keller.
As a footnote, when I saw this episode as a child, my brother asked me if the horse was also an alien. Why not ?Review by Richard Fincher, submitted 2002-05-27
