Episode 23 : "The Trial"

Summary

Disorder in the Court!

Review

Okay, let me see if I have the facts straight. A man is put on trial for murder, but: 1. There is no body. 2. No one saw the murder take place. And, 3. No one seems to know what happened to the victim. Of course, he was an alien -- David Vincent knows that and tries to prove it -- but the silly premise of this episode undermines everything that happens in it. Silly Thing #2: The Judge actually allows the Defense's line of questioning that the murder victim wasn't human -- and he does so with a straight face! Every time the Prosecution objects to this obviously preposterous notion, the Judge bangs his gavel and says, "Overruled! I will allow this line of reasoning -- but BE CAREFUL, Mister Vincent!" Silly Thing #3: The aliens send two of their agents in to pose as the murder victim's mother and father. They appear for only a few minutes, then they go out in the hall, swallow suicide pills and burn up. What a waste! (What an incredible amount of trouble to go to, for nothing!) Oh, and another thing -- if for no other reason but for the benefit of the viewing audience -- David proves one of the court officials is an alien by cutting his hand. The hand doesn't bleed, and the man takes off running down the hall. A cop draws his gun and yells, "Stop! Or I'll shoot!" He shoots the running man in the back, and the man burns up. Naturally, there are several witnesses who were disbelievers before, but now -- ? Silly, silly, silly!
